Adaptation of mHealth intervention
WP3 will adapt and implement an mHealth intervention aimed at improving the quality of life for PWD and their caregivers. It conucts a feasibility study to customize an existing intervention from the U.S. to fit the Peruvian cultural and healthcare context. The intervention is based on the introduction of CHWs who become Community health navigators and mediate between an overloaded Health system and PwD and their families.
It assesses the intervention’s acceptability among the target population and gathers data on its impact, preparing for a potential future randomized control trial.
WP3 will provide a scalable, evidence-based intervention designed to improve dementia care and enhance the well-being of both patients and caregivers.
Progress
Initial data collection for WP3 has commenced, with focus group discussions held to understand caregivers’ perceptions regarding support from a care navigator. A new research assistant with mental health clinical skills and research experience has joined the team, and in November, a fieldwork coordinator will be added. Four focus groups have been conducted to assess the viability of a care ecosystem. Care protocols for fieldwork implementation have been developed and are currently undergoing internal and external validation by researchers and caregivers of people with dementia.
