mHealth app for CHWs
WP2 develops and tests an mHealth app that enables community health workers (CHWs) to diagnose dementia and record co-morbidities. The app is co-created with local stakeholders to ensure it is tailored to the specific needs of the Peruvian context. The app is tested on 1,600 people across four distinct regions—urban Lima, a semi-urban coastal area, the Andes, and the Amazon—ensuring its adaptability across different cultural and geographical settings. WP2 will assess the app's acceptability to CHWs and evaluate its accuracy in diagnosing dementia.
The app is expected to be integrated into primary healthcare systems, allowing it to be easily adopted and scaled.
This package enhances early detection efforts, which is crucial for improving dementia care and reducing its overall burden on the health system.
Progress
Fieldwork and data collection are progressing well, following successful co-design and training sessions with local partners and community health workers. Training has been completed for all CHWs, focusing on chronic conditions, multimorbidity, and app usage. We have now initiated data collection in all four sites. A notable achievement in WP2 is the development of an innovative app designed to empower community health workers in dementia screening. This tool will enhance detection and intervention. The WP4 team has collaborated closely with WP2 on decision-making processes, developing questionnaires and manuals for fieldworkers, and revising the data collection platform (App and Redcap), particularly concerning health economics sections.
